Andrew about Heart of the sun class:

Join me for an enlightening workshop delving into the essence of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, where we’ll explore the heart of our practice—Surya Namaskar and Vinyasa.

Surya Namaskar, the sun salutation, forms the very core of Ashtanga Vinyasa, connecting us to the profound significance of the sun in Indian philosophy. Drawing from the revered tradition of sun worship and Bhakti Yoga, as embraced by the father of modern yoga, Sri Krishnamacharya, we’ll uncover the energetic transformations that occur within us during our practice—the “rising of the sun within.”

In this class, we’ll unveil the historical and philosophical foundations that underpin Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Understanding the physical intricacies of Surya Namaskar, we’ll learn how to practice it safely and seamlessly integrate it into our asana sequences using the Vinyasa method.

Just as a song needs a scale and rhythm, Surya Namaskar sets the tone for the entire Primary Series. With proper techniques, Vinyasa movements can be a harmonious flow, free from repetitive strain injuries. I’ll guide you through the Vinyasa counts and the art of entering and exiting postures, making the practice accessible to all, while offering advanced techniques for those ready to explore further.

Let’s come together and embrace the radiant energy of the sun as we embark on this transformative journey through Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

Raja Vinyasa:

Welcome to Raja Vinyasa Yoga—an approach to yoga practice inspired by the great kings of Mysore, India, and meticulously developed by Andrew Eppler. In this transformative journey, we invite you to discover the king or queen within you!

Our classes start with therapeutic exercises that gently warm up and balance the body, reducing the risk of injuries. We then transition into a dynamic flow of asanas based on Ashtanga Vinyasa sequences. While honoring the integrity of Ashtanga, we take the time to dive deeper into specific aspects of asana practice, allowing for a more profound experience.

Each session concludes with Mudra, Pranayama, and Meditation, ensuring a complete and fulfilling yoga experience. Moving from the gross to the subtle, we empower our students to tap into the healing potential of yoga through individualized Yoga Therapy. This branch of practice caters to each student’s unique needs and corresponds to Tamas Guna.

Our Vinyasa sequences are meticulously crafted with attention to structure and arrangement, infusing each movement with purpose and meaning. Concentrated, structured asana practice corresponds to Raja Guna, leading us closer to our ultimate goal—Raja Yoga.

While exercise may bring physical benefits, we believe that the true essence of yoga lies in its energetic and philosophical aspects. Pranayama and Meditation practices, corresponding to Sattva Guna, unlock deeper insights into the nature of our minds and lives.

Raja Vinyasa Yoga strives to make Ashtanga accessible to all, regardless of age, fitness level, or background. Our foundational objective is to teach Ashtanga yoga safely and supportively, incorporating the subtler teachings that lead to profound states of concentration and internal joy.

Join us on this soul-enriching journey, where yoga becomes a path to inner freedom and a harmonious, balanced life.
